Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name! Okay, so that’s the theme song of Cheers (which is located in Boston, btw), but it can be applied to any neighborhood spot that everyone frequents. The spot where the staff knows that Joe always sits at the table in the back and orders a coke and a black coffee before anything else. The spot where the chef knows that Deidre likes her chicken wings and bacon extra crispy (….so do I Deidre, so do I). The spot where all the young adults run to after work because they know they have a plethora of beer to choose from, and beyond delicious and creative bites to eat. Ladies and gentleman, I have a feeling that City Tap House is that spot for us Bostonians. 

With four other locations (2 in Philly, 1 in DC and 1 in West Palm Beach, FL), City Tap is a place, as they say, that has an extensive and “innovative beer list, as well as craft food that inspires and surprises the palate”(Citytaphouse.comI can put my hand on the bible and vouch for them; the food is amazing, the staff is beyond attentive and full of personality (hey Fhi and Liz!) and the decor is cozy and to-die-for! 

I had the opportunity to attend their Grand Opening with other bloggers and press (check out the photos in the slideshow above) and was so impressed that I came back two days later, in a snowstorm, to try their brunch. The grand opening was one of the best I’ve been to (and I’m not just saying that) and the brunch lived up to the hype I attached to it. At brunch, I immediately ordered the beermosa, as well as the chicken and waffles. Accompaniments included: honey-thyme butter, molasses syrup and red pepper jam.  A side of bacon was also ordered for the table because what brunch is complete without a side of bacon? My boyfriend ordered the roast pork hash and we went half and half on each dish.

This place is more than just a bar, it’s an exploration of great food, creative drinks and a welcoming atmosphere. I cannot wait to go back.

Sweet Soul: A Balanced Life | Ana Goes Fit

As a verb, balance is defined as: “to keep or put (something) in a steady position so that it does not fall”. As a noun, balance is defined as: “an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady.” When it comes to my new series “A Balanced Life” I have chosen a few lovely ladies to feature that I believe embody what it means to live a balanced and healthy lifestyle. These women inspire me to keep buying organically (even if it is more expensive and some people just don’t get it), to keep working out (even if it is the first time in my life I am getting fit in a healthy way) and to keep up the positive attitude and energy.

Ana, of @anagoesfit, is a fitness guru here in Boston. If you follow her on Instagram (if not, what are you waiting for?) I’m sure she has inspired you to get out there and run a few miles, to try a new workout class, or eat a bit healthier and not let anything stop you. She is truly inspiring (leaving her home in Mexico and starting a new and active life here in the states) and I’m so happy I got to learn a bit more about her during this Balanced Life interview.

Sweet Review: Italy in Medford | Real Gusto

Picture it, Italy, 1943…..Well, not exactly, but it very well could be, and if you got that Golden Girls reference then you’re my new bestie.

Francesca and Matteo Ronzio, natives of Italy, came to visit Boston on vacation years ago and decided to never leave. While here, they had the idea to open up a restaurant that brought a little piece of their beloved Italy to the Northeast, and I am happy they did. Thanks Francesca and Matteo!

One of my close friends has parents who are from Italy, and when they invite you over for dinner, you know to 1. not eat that day and 2. wear your stretchy pants. The Italians know how to throw down in the kitchen and at the table. Plate after plate, after meat, after pasta dish is brought out steadily as you stuff yourself with the magical flavors of the mother land.

Sweet Eats: Brunch So Hard | Top 5 Reasons

When it comes to cultural phenomenons, brunch is at the forefront. The Saturday and Sunday morning routine of dragging your hungover body from bed to throw on your best brunch outfit, rounding up the crew and spending the hours between 10am and 2pm at your neighborhood cafe or bar is the new norm.

What is it about brunch that brings out the masses so much so that even high end restaurants can be seen advertising “boozy brunch” events on their menus? Below I have listed the top five reasons brunching is always a good idea.

ONE: It is a good excuse to drink early in the morning and not have to preface your first sip with: “It’s 5 o’clock somewhere!”

TWO: It’s an Instagram feed upgrade. Posting a picture of your tablescape filled with chicken and waffles or your friend’s hand reaching for a mimosa or bloody will surely rank you at the top with the best #foodporn photogs out there. Afterall, it didn’t really happen if it wasn’t ‘grammed, right?

THREE: You get to kill two birds with one stone. Let’s be honest, you’re probably too hungover to wake up early enough to make breakfast; and we’re not supposed to skip the most important meal of the day, right? Why not combine your breakfast AND lunch into one meal! At brunch it is socially acceptable to order a serving of tacos in the same breath of ordering Texas or challah French toast piled high with whipped cream, strawberries and a side of bacon (ALWAYS get the side of bacon). This is your opportunity to try a little bit of everything on the menu.

FIVE: There’s no better way to avoid thinking about the Sunday scaries than to bring the crew together and laugh about the antics that transpired the night before. Doing it over bottomless bellinis is just icing on the cake.
