Sweet Beauty: Kinky Curly | Natural Hair

IMG_3399

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, then I’m sure you’ve noticed the tremendous Natural Hair movement going on these days. More and more, women are reverting back to their natural hair texture and embracing their kinks and curls and all of its voluminous glory. When I was younger, there weren’t many people in the media who looked like me; there weren’t many women with hair like mine or skin like mine. What the media considered beautiful were women with fair skin, light eyes and long, pin straight hair. For many years I emulated that by chemically straightening my hair, going on fad diets and even buying colored contacts.

It has been about 3 years since I decided to go natural, transitioning from a chemically straight head of hair, clipping off the straight ends little by little. It wasn’t until this year that I truly started taking care of my hair and giving it all of the attention that it deserves, regular wash days, no shampoo, co-washes and lots of moisture! It definitely isn’t easy taking care of “natural hair”, but it is so exciting to see my hair continue to thrive and grow in its natural state.

As I continue on this journey, I will share the different tips and tricks I have learned along the way that has helped my hair flourish! Until then, scroll through some natural hair inspo!

Sweet Soul: A Balanced Life | Georgina Castellucci of @BostonGeorgina

As a verb, balance is defined as: “to keep or put (something) in a steady position so that it does not fall”. As a noun, balance is defined as: “an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady.” When it comes to my new series “A Balanced Life” I have chosen a few lovely ladies to feature that I believe embody what it means to live a balanced and healthy lifestyle. These women inspire me to keep buying organically (even if it is more expensive and some people just don’t get it), to keep working out (even if it is the first time in my life I am getting fit in a healthy way) and to keep up the positive attitude and energy.

It is time for my sixth installment of this amazing series: A Balanced Life. If you have missed any of the beautiful and inspiring women in this series, simply type in “A Balanced Life” in the search bar, and all of the interviews will appear. Today’s Balanced Babe is a friend of mine who is no stranger to the Boston food and lifestyle scene, Georgina Castellucci. As humble as she is, if you’re in the Boston blogger scene, then you know who Georgina is (be one of the 15.6 thousand people who follow her, here), and if you don’t, then you are in the perfect place to get to learn a little bit more about her. I am inspired by Georgina not only for what she has accomplished professionally and in the blogging sphere, but also what she continues to overcome personally. Georgina suffers from SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus), or Lupus for short (read more about her story about Lupus, here). When you meet her, smile as bright and wide as can be, you would NEVER notice that anything might be ailing her. She does not show it. She is a GIRL BOSS, and I could not wait to share her inspiring story with the rest of you guys! Continue reading for more…

Sweet Soul: A Balanced Life | Elissa Garza of Style Wire

We are still going strong with my series: A Balanced Life. I am happy to introduce to you my fourth Balanced Babe, Elissa Garza! I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Elissa a couple of times at blogger events and each time I’ve spoken with her she was very genuine and kind. She didn’t look at me as “the new kid” on the Boston blogger scene, rather she was more than willing to answer any questions I had when it came to blogging. It is hard to come by people  you feel not only talk to you about themselves, but also are interested in what you have to say. It was a no brainer that I wanted to include Elissa in this Balanced Life Series. She is the definition of a go-getter and trend setter. If you don’t believe me, check out her blog, Style Wire; you’ll be hooked in no time. Want more inspiration from Elissa? Continue reading below!

Sweet Soul: A Balanced Life | Brianna Madia

As a verb, balance is defined as: “to keep or put (something) in a steady position so that it does not fall”. As a noun, balance is defined as: “an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady.” When it comes to my new series “A Balanced Life” I have chosen a few lovely ladies to feature that I believe embody what it means to live a balanced and healthy lifestyle. My second Balanced Babe is another old high school friend, Brianna Madia (formerly known as Cihi). As I’m sitting here writing this little five sentence intro, I feel a little nervous as I want to ensure that my grammar is precise and my words are witty; not because that isn’t already how I write, but because Brianna’s writing is impeccable. (check out her instagram to see why). She is more than just a great writer, she is intrinsically her, she walks to the beat of her own drum and, since the fourteen years I’ve known her, always has. She definitely inspires me, and the seventeen-thousand others that follow her, and I guarantee she will inspire you!
