Sweet Eats: Go-To Green Smoothie Bowl ft: Ashley and Katie Hess (ThePartyof2)

You guys thought I was just spewing out words when I wrote about going on this quest for serious balance  in my life, huh? Nope! I’m getting genuinely serious about my health and am ready to open up my mind, body, soul and wallet to ensuring I live this balanced life I always talk about living. It was with great pleasure that I had the opportunity to collaborate with Ashley and Katie Hess of The Party of 2. If you’re following them on Instagram (if not, what the heck are you waiting for?!), then you know their feed is not only aesthetically pleasing due to it’s perfect curation of their travels and outfit posts, but they’re also pretty big foodies too!

I admire that they seem to lead a balanced life when it comes to their food choices and workout routines (check them out on snapchat too! @thepartyoftwo) and was stoked to get the scoop on their favorite go-to green smoothie bowl for all of my readers to try at home.

So without further ado, take it away ladies!…..


(A+K): We all have those nights of overindulgence. Maybe you had one too many martinis or stayed out a few more hours than intended or than your head would have liked the next morning. Whatever the case, we’ve got your quick fix for finding your center of balance again. When it comes down to it, food influences the way we feel and can act as our greatest medicine when we choose to let it. So whenever we feel that our bodies are in need of a little lovin’, we pull out our blender, turn to our refrigerator, and go diving. The result always tends to take some form of an energizing smoothie bowl, but the one we’ve concocted here tends to be our most often made. Check out the recipe below and try your hand at our greenest go-to!
Go-To Green Smoothie Bowl:
Serves 1:
– 1 cup unsweetened almond milk or coconut water (milk is creamier option of the two)
– 3/4 frozen banana
– 1 cup chopped, frozen kale
– 1 scoop of vanilla vegan protein powder (we like either Sun Warrior or Garden of Life)
– Pomegranate Seeds
– Chia Seeds
– Dried Mulberries
– Flax Seeds
– Dried Goji Berries
– Hemp Seeds
– Frozen Blueberries
– Fresh Raspberries
– Granola (we mix grain free granola by White Lion Baking Company and Back Roads)
– Powdered Peanut Butter


1. Pour almond milk or coconut water in blender. Place banana and kale in next, and add scoop of vegan protein powder. Secure the top of the blender so you don’t have a mess of green slime all over your kitchen.
2. Blend on high for about a minute or until smooth. Make sure you blend well, no chunks allowed.
3. Pour into bowl.
4. Top with your favorite seeds, granola, nut butter, and fruit. Grab spoon, take it to the face, and resist using your finger to lick the bowl.
*All ingredients are organic*

SweetFit: My Fitness Crushes of the Month

If you peruse Instagram all day (even though nothing new has been uploaded since you’ve last checked) then I’m sure you have a certain few accounts that you religiously (stalk) check and gain inspiration from.

During my new fitness journey, I have taken the women whom I admire via Instagram and am using them as my motivation/ inspiration.

**Disclaimer: It is good to have someone or something to motivate you in order to get your butt up out of bed at 6am to hit the gym, but you must know the difference between being motivated by them and wanting to be them.

The women I am sharing in this post have inspired me by their fitness journey, their passion for being healthy: mind, body and soul, and their determination. In no way shape or form do I want to be just like them as I know I am my own person and there is only one me. (remember that for yourself as well!)

1. Khloe Kardashian

Whether you hate the Kardashians or not, this girl is a true inspiration.

All throughout her life Khloe has battled with her weight. On an older episode of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” she revealed that when she was a teen she went so far as to starve herself and passed out due to being malnourished. She’s always being compared to her sisters and being called the “fat one” (whatever that means) by the media and the public.

But these past few months Khloe has really taken out all of her stress and aggression and has hit the gym hard. Ignoring all of the negative comments, divorce drama and has been focusing on her overall health and wellness. By keeping up with Khloe, she has inspired me to do the same!

2. The Balanced Blonde

Jordan, the writer behind the blog The Balanced Blonde (formerly called The Balanced Vegan), is a major inspiration to me.

For those who have followed my blog from the beginning, you know that I suffered from a serious eating disorder that took over my life for 4 long years. Thankfully I was able to get the help I needed and have been “symptom free” for almost 3 years.

When I came across Jordan’s blog, it was because I was interested in the vegan lifestyle (who am I kidding? I love seafood too much!) and saw that she changed her blogs direction due to her health being affected by being vegan. Not to bash veganism, but it contributed to Jordan developing orthorexia, an obsession with eating foods that one considers healthy. I can definitely relate to her having food fears and food aversions and limiting certain foods she was able to consume with an irrational fear of gaining weight etc.

Jordan was able to overcome this disease and is still living a healthy life, still blogging and spreading a positive lifestyle message, and is listening to her body while doing so, and for that, she is one of my fitness inspirations!

3. Jennifer Lopez

What can be said about J.Lo that hasn’t been said already?

This woman is amazing and seems to get even more amazing with age. What I admire about her is that she isn’t in the tabloids for ratchet or crazy behavior. We may hear about her topsy-turvy love life, but who’s love life isn’t up and down these days? At the age of 40-something her body is killer. It goes to show that there are no excuses as to why you can’t put down that family-size bag of chips, slip on your sneakers and do at least 20 minutes of cardio 2 or 3 times a week. #absonfleek

4. Hannah Bronfman

I had to save the best for last. If you know me, then you know I may or may not have a slight infatuation/ obsession with this girl. At any chance I get (i.e.: my first training session at my gym with my trainer) I will tell everyone about Hannah.

First, click her name, and follow her on Instagram. She is inspiring in every way. Although she comes from a wealthy family (google the Bronfman family) Hannah seems so down to earth and chill. She is a fashionista, a well sought after DJ, and she is passionate about healthy living: mind, body and soul. She, along with a friend, created a beauty app: beautified (an easy way to find and book same day beauty services) and can be seen on her Instagram making delicious smoothies and juices, and doing mind-blowing work-outs along with her handsome DJ boyfriend, Brendan Fallis.

She even has a blog: that she recently started where she displays her knowledge for all things: healthy eating, natural beauty, fashion and fitness. Check her out, follow her and thank me later.
