Sweet Beauty: Sway Aveda Spa | A Review & GIVEAWAY!

I am a big advocate for self-care, especially as a woman who suffers from anxiety. Self-care is good for your mental health and can be different for everyone: 10 minutes of alone time to read a book, watching a Netflix show, going to the gym, taking a walk after dinner time, doing an at-home facial, drawing yourself a warm bath, etc. What ever you need to do in order to spend time with yourself and relax, qualifies as self-care and should be at the forefront when it comes to taking care of yourself.

If you experience back pain, sore muscles, creaking joints, knots in your muscles, then I recommend going to the spa once a month, or every other month, to get a full body massage. Sitting at a desk, pecking away at a compuer, for 40+ hours a week can do a lot of damage to our bodies. (read about the risks, here). This massage with Sway Aveda Spa couldn’t come at a more perfect time.

Sweet Soul: A Balanced Life Series | Kinesha Goldson

As a verb, balance is defined as: “to keep or put (something) in a steady position so that it does not fall”. As a noun, balance is defined as: “an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady.” When it comes to my new series “A Balanced Life” I have chosen a few lovely ladies to feature that I believe embody what it means to live a balanced and healthy lifestyle. These women inspire me to keep buying organically (even if it is more expensive and some people just don’t get it), to keep working out (even if it is the first time in my life I am getting fit in a healthy way) and to keep up the positive attitude and energy.

Could it be her bright, beaming smile? Or the fact that she is a fellow Jamaican gyal? Perhaps it’s her hustle spirit (founder and owner of Cameo Macaron food truck and contestant for Miss Universe Jamaica) that drew me to Balanced Babe number ten, Ms. Kinesha Goldson. What ever it was, I am so happy I clicked “follow” on her Instagram page and am able to gain daily inspiration from her on the “Balanced Babe” and fitness front. It is comforting to know that there are still women out there who know that they’re beautiful, but prefer to lead with their brain. She is ambitious and a true inspiration; I hope she inspires you too!

Hi everyone!

Welcome back to my Balanced Life series. I took a little break from blogging to de-stress from a bunch of things that were going on, but I am back and ready to attack! In order to kick things off, I am bringing you my eighth Balanced Babe: Nancy Chen aka @approachingpaleo on Instagram. Not only is she a boss when it comes to fitness and leading a healthy lifestyle (just follow her on Insta to see what I’m talking about), but she is just a boss babe at being resilient. Similar to myself, she too fought through a horrible eating disorder and came out on top! That is truly inspiring to me, and I hope after reading her interview, you leave here inspired as well!

Sweet Beauty: Kinky Curly | Natural Hair

IMG_3399

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, then I’m sure you’ve noticed the tremendous Natural Hair movement going on these days. More and more, women are reverting back to their natural hair texture and embracing their kinks and curls and all of its voluminous glory. When I was younger, there weren’t many people in the media who looked like me; there weren’t many women with hair like mine or skin like mine. What the media considered beautiful were women with fair skin, light eyes and long, pin straight hair. For many years I emulated that by chemically straightening my hair, going on fad diets and even buying colored contacts.

It has been about 3 years since I decided to go natural, transitioning from a chemically straight head of hair, clipping off the straight ends little by little. It wasn’t until this year that I truly started taking care of my hair and giving it all of the attention that it deserves, regular wash days, no shampoo, co-washes and lots of moisture! It definitely isn’t easy taking care of “natural hair”, but it is so exciting to see my hair continue to thrive and grow in its natural state.

As I continue on this journey, I will share the different tips and tricks I have learned along the way that has helped my hair flourish! Until then, scroll through some natural hair inspo!
