I am a big advocate for self-care, especially as a woman who suffers from anxiety. Self-care is good for your mental health and can be different for everyone: 10 minutes of alone time to read a book, watching a Netflix show, going to the gym, taking a walk after dinner time, doing an at-home facial, drawing yourself a warm bath, etc. What ever you need to do in order to spend time with yourself and relax, qualifies as self-care and should be at the forefront when it comes to taking care of yourself.
If you experience back pain, sore muscles, creaking joints, knots in your muscles, then I recommend going to the spa once a month, or every other month, to get a full body massage. Sitting at a desk, pecking away at a compuer, for 40+ hours a week can do a lot of damage to our bodies. (read about the risks, here). This massage with Sway Aveda Spa couldn’t come at a more perfect time.
I was drawn to Sway Spa due to the fact that they use Aveda products. Aveda’s founder, Horst Rechelbacher, was a “pioneer of holistic beauty and champion of environmental responsibility” (Aveda.com). The company also cares about the environment! From their naturally derived, certified organic green ingredients, to their recycled packaging, everything about Aveda is perfect for someone like me who is looking to use products that aren’t harmful to the largest organ of the body: the skin.
One thing about this particular location that stuck out to me was the cleanliness. I can’t tell you how often I’ll go into a store where a service such as nails or hair, (or even food) is performed and am turned off by the clumps of dust in the corner, or streaks of hand prints on the glass. Sway Spa is so clean, you can probably eat food off of the floor. I also liked the fact that the owners were there. I saw them greet their customers by name, offering water or tea, always with a beaming smile and enthusiasm; those things matter to me. Their positive vibes calmed me.
My massage therapist was male, and I have to admit, I was a bit nervous at first. My past experience with getting a facial or massage has always been with a female, so I didn’t know what to expect going into the room, undressing and settling onto the massage table half naked.
Honestly speaking, I might ask for a male from now on. My massage therapist was knowledgable and before I could even ask him to focus on a certain problem area, he already knew to give that area a little more attention, he was very in tune with my body. I wouldn’t say I have serious back problems, but I definitely needed the heavy and deep massage that I received.
After the massage, my skin all over my body felt so smooth and moisturized…still feels that way right now as I type up this post! I left Sway Aveda Spa feeling relaxed mentally and smooth as a baby’s bottom physically. I can’t wait until my next appointment. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!
