As a verb, balance is defined as: “to keep or put (something) in a steady position so that it does not fall”. As a noun, balance is defined as: “an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady.” When it comes to my new series “A Balanced Life” I have chosen a few lovely ladies to feature that I believe embody what it means to live a balanced and healthy lifestyle. These women inspire me to keep buying organically (even if it is more expensive and some people just don’t get it), to keep working out (even if it is the first time in my life I am getting fit in a healthy way) and to keep up the positive attitude and energy.
You probably recognize her from her beaming, bright and wide smile, or perhaps her infectious laugh and soothing spirit…or the fact that she’s always so lit! Kayte, Mass Musings on Instagram, was the first person I reached out to when I was trying to make my way into the Boston blogging community about 2 years ago. She responded to my email with such zeal that I was definitely taken aback in a happy and relieved way. We met for drinks and had such a passionate and genuine conversation about blogging and what we wanted to do in life that I was astounded to learn she was 2 years younger than me! Not that people younger than me can’t have dreams and passions, but Kayte definitely carries herself with authority and confidence. She’s awesome, and if you’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting her, I’m sure you feel that way too. Check out her Balanced Life post below!
1. What does a Balanced Life mean to you?
A balanced life to me is one where I’m at peace with sense of self, my body, and my emotions. That doesn’t mean everything has to be or will be perfect all the time, but if I’m taking care of myself physically and emotionally, I feel more whole as a person and at peace with the world.
2. Do you have an AM and PM routine that contributes to your balanced life?
Not particularly (although perhaps I should as I tend to do really well with routines). I try to go to the gym at least 5 times a week for an hour. I also make a huge effort to eat healthily and mindfully. To me, mindful eating means that if I know I’m going to be eating out with friends for a majority of the week, I make sure that my other meals are packed with enough nutrients (think fruits and veggies) to combat those richer, heavier plates at the restaurant.
3. What is your definition of self-love and positive body image?
Like many women, I’ve struggled with body image my whole life. I grew up dancing so being in front of a mirror, comparing yourself to others every day definitely took a toll on my psyche. That being said, I’m in a really positive place now. Even though I still have my moments, I try to remember that I was given one body and that it’s beautiful no matter what anyone else says or what anyone else looks like. I think if you can find it in yourself to realize how amazing you are, you’re unstoppable.
4. What are some ways you stay active and foods you eat to achieve a balanced mind, body and soul (favorite work out routines, favorite healthy dish/ snack etc.)
Dancing and swimming are my two favorite activities EVER. It doesn’t have to be a dance class or laps in the pool either. You can often find me busting a move on the dance floor or body surfing waves in the ocean. As for food, I recently bought a NurtiBullet and that thing is the bomb.com! I seriously feel so good knowing that I’m in complete control about what goes into my smoothies and that every ingredient is healthy.
5. Words to live by/ favorite quote that has to do with positivity, good vibes or positive body image.
“It will all be okay because it has to be.”
