As a verb, balance is defined as: “to keep or put (something) in a steady position so that it does not fall”. As a noun, balance is defined as: “an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady.” When it comes to my new series “A Balanced Life” I have chosen a few lovely ladies to feature that I believe embody what it means to live a balanced and healthy lifestyle. These women inspire me to keep buying organically (even if it is more expensive and some people just don’t get it), to keep working out (even if it is the first time in my life I am getting fit in a healthy way) and to keep up the positive attitude and energy.
If the name Alexandra Machover doesn’t ring a bell, then perhaps her IG handle, Spur of the Moments will. Alexandra is one of my top favorite NYC bloggers/influencers/social media enthusiasts that I follow on the gram; I love to follow along on all of her gastronomic and sartorial adventures. Not only is she knowledgeable on where to eat and shop in NYC, but she also serves as PopSugar’s Associate producer (talk about #girlboss goals!), where she gets to hang with one of my all time favorites, Hannah Bronfman, producing their Hannahgram videos. Alexandra is a girl after my own heart (she sings in an acapella group too! Girl’s got pipes!) and definitely would be part of my squad, if I had one. Without further ado, sit back, relax and be prepared to be inspired!
1. What does a Balanced Life mean to you?
A balanced life means doing what you love for a living while also taking time to decompress and unwind. Whether that’s spending a day binge watching shows or taking the weekend to socialize with friends, it’s so important to disconnect from work.
2. Do you have an AM and PM routine that contributes to your balanced life?
In the morning I always make a matcha. That’s about the only routine I have since my schedule is always different. I guess the one consistent thing about my day-to-day is that I am always at a new event, meeting new people, and enjoying NYC. I feel like socializing makes me balanced in the sense that it takes me away from all electronics. I love meeting new people and taking full advantage of what this city has to offer.
3. What is your definition of self-love and positive body image?
Ooo this is a tough one. Self love and positive body image are different for each person. For me, I always love myself, but I can’t deny that I feel my best when I’m eating clean and consistently running (a routine that has gone to the wayside ever since becoming super busy). I guess that self-love is knowing you are amazing no matter what and always having confidence. Find what makes you feel confident and do that. Always.
4. What are some ways you stay active and foods you eat to achieve a balanced mind, body and soul (favorite work out routines, favorite healthy dish/ snack etc.)
NYC is the best gym. I’m constantly walking (or running) around and feel like that’s how I burn off most of my calories (especially those subway stairs). I also go for runs on occasion — this is definitely something I need to be better about. Running is such a great way to clear my mind; it’s almost meditative. I also make sure I eat super healthy during the day – fruit and salads for the most part. And at night I’ll treat myself to a fab dinner 🙂
5. Words to live by/ favorite quote that has to do with positivity, good vibes or positive body image.
Just do you. Have fun and live life to the fullest. Take risks and remember that when you’re lying on your death bed, you’re not going to remember all of the times you played it safe. YOLO.
#GirlBossGoals, right? Alexandra inspires me to keep pursuing my dreams and to have all the fun while doing so. If you haven’t followed her already, what are you waiting for? Here’s her instagram and a link to her blog too!
