Sweet Life: Weekend Recap

It has been a very relaxing Easter/ Resurrection weekend. I’m trying to put more effort into my blog life, so I decided to stay in and cook, taste, adjust and perfect different recipes and go out to eat to provide content for my readers. As I start to take myself a little bit more seriously, I can see the positive results (more on that later!).

So every two weeks or so I’d like to give a quick weekend recap so you can follow along on my eating journeys and any other interesting things that might have happened. Also, if you’re not following me via instagram, click this link, and follow along!

As you know, or maybe you don’t, St. Pattys day is pretty big here in Boston, so the fact that we live in the heart of the parade (Southie), it was pretty exciting. Sadly, I missed the whole parade as I was too tired to even move, but was forced out afterwards by some friends. I did get to try another new (to me) restaurant in our new neighborhood. Shenanigans!

The place was packed which was a good sign for me because that means the food must be good….also, March madness might have had something to do with it.

I had the fish tacos appetizer. That was HUGE! I was full after having one and a half tacos, so my boyfriend had to finish the rest. It was definitely weird to go to a place called Shenanigans (Irish) and get something Mexican, but it was very delicious. My boyfriend had the chili and quesadillas which also looked yummy.

Aside from the times when my boyfriend and I are exploring restaurants (mostly via groupon deals) and eating what most would consider “not so healthy”, I eat pretty well. I have a smoothie with a side of fruit for breakfast every morning, so the past 2 weeks I have been trying to perfect my go-to smoothie recipe (coming soon!).

Have you ever gone to Panera with the intention of getting their bomb green tea and instead leave with a new bestie? Well, that’s what happened to me a year and some months ago. My friend Annie (you may know her as @shopthestreet) and I went out to Lolita this past weekend for a #JAnnie night out (…yes, I made up that hashtag) and it was soooooo good.

If you’ve ever been to Lolita in Back Bay, then you know 1. it is ALWAYS packed and 2. it feels like you’re entering a 1600’s British torture chamber where instead of whips and chains there are beautiful waitresses, cotton candy and amazing tacos (and can’t forget the amazing margaritas!)

The vibe is always high and  the food is always good, so the long wait for a table is never disappointing.

Our new location is amazing because not only are we close to all of the Southie hotspots, but we’re also a 10 minute walk to all of the Seaport hotspots. Legal’s Test Kitchen aka LTK is a crowd favorite in our household. It’s basically the cooler little brother of Legal’s Seafood where they roll out a new and different menu every six weeks showcasing seasonal and healthful dishes. The ambiance is a lot more hip (think low lights and top 40s music playing in the background) with flat screens playing what ever sporting event is hot at the moment, and the friendliest staff (especially the bartenders!).

This past Friday, date night took us to another Southie location, Moonshine 152. As I stated above, my boyfriend and I find most of our date night specials via groupon (we’re balling on a tight, tight budget here folks!), so he purchased a good deal for Moonshine. Going off of the name, I didn’t know what to expect (a weird basement of a bootlegger from the 1920s perhaps?), but looking at the menu and then stepping into the establishment, I was amazed.

I had been whining about craving a nicely cooked whole fish for months, so when I saw they had a whole sea bass dish on the menu, that was my obvious choice. Let. Me. Tell. You.

That fish was AMAZING! I can’t even put into words how the flavors complimented each other so well and the how great the fish was cooked to perfection. My family is Jamaican, so we appreciate a good whole fish (you will find fried whole snapper everywhere in Jamaica), but this fish by Chef Asia Mei was out of this world. I’m telling you, if you’re ever in the area, and if they have the sea bass on the menu, GET IT! (…and that’s an order!).

To round out the weekend, I was invited by the lovely folks at Margaritas to try out their new food and drink menu, but that review will be coming soon!
