SweetLife: Motivation Monday—Challenge Yourself


This past weekend (and most times when I’m shooting the shit with my closest friends) I found myself giving deep advice and getting into deep conversation about life and trying to live a happier one.

I believe that you cannot live life if you do not challenge yourself.


My favorite definition of “challenge” is to dispute the truth or validity of...

Too often we doubt ourselves on being able to do things that seem too hard, or doubt that we can become something we’ve always dreamed of becoming. Examples: never becoming a successful blogger, or, this work-out class is too hard, I’m not as good of a singer as “so and so” so I’ll never be good enough etc.

To challenge yourself is to dispute those things you replay over and over in your mind, which cause you to believe those things to be the absolute truth.

Example: I HATE spin class and running….period. I don’t like to do it, because I told myself I can’t do it. I started to actually believe it. I grew up in the church, and we’re taught that we can do ALL THINGS through Christ who strengthens us. Whether you’re religious or not, that sentiment is true.

You can do ANYTHING that you put your mind to if only you believe you can. (sounds like a line straight out of a Disney movie, I know…but it is beyond true!)

Obviously it’s not going to be easy-peasey, lemon squeezy (another corny line….I know) but the key is to never give up…keep challenging yourself. You were only able to run around your block once? Good for you! At least you got out there and ran.

The next step is to challenge yourself to run around your block 2 or 3 more times, and keep progressing.

I never thought I’d be able to wake up at 5 or 6 in the morning to head to the gym, but I’ve been doing it. Today I challenged myself to a spin class, and even though I struggled at some points and had to take quick 3 second rests every so often, I challenged myself and NEVER QUIT! I made it through the full 50 minutes and I felt stronger because of it.


Completing something that you once thought you wouldn’t be able to accomplish strengthens your confidence in yourself. It enables you to believe “oh wow, I did this. Let me try something else I didn’t think I could do”, and before you know it, you’re facing life head on with no fear whatsoever.


Step outside of your comfort zone. Enter situations that may make you a little nervous/un-easy and a little scared.

Challenge yourself and you’ll begin to see your life, and life in general, in a completely different way.
