Fashion is described as: “a popular trend, especially in styles of dress and ornament or manners of behavior” while style is something completely different.
We all know the famous quotes regarding style by some of the best fashion icons such as Oscar De la Renta and Coco Chanel:
“Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. Style is more about being yourself.”-Oscar De la Renta
“Fashion fades, only style remains the same.”- Coco Chanel
“Fashion fades, Style is eternal”- Yves Saint Laurent
‘Fashion is what you’re offered four times a year by designers. And style is what you choose.’ – Lauren Hutton
Style is something that cannot be bought, style is something that is innate to an individual, something you are born with, something that makes you, you. It sets you apart from everyone else, rather than having you blend in with the “fashionable” crowd, walking around looking like lemmings.
On my daily perusal of instagram and tumblr posts, as well as many incredible blogs, I love the clothes most of the people wear, but the ones I continue to frequent such as WEWOREWHAT, KYLIE JENNER, RIHANNA, SHIONAT, PRETTY SICKLY and the BEAUTY CRUSH, (just to name a few) have this sense of “self”. They not only know fashion, (they do not just wear those studded Valentino heels because they are trendy and everybody’s wearing it) but they think outside of the box. They mix and match, they take pieces from different eras and it works effortlessly.
That is how I approach fashion. I know at the moment I cannot afford a pair of Christian Louboutins, an Hermes scarf or even a Madewell leather jacket, but the items I can afford, I rock it like the best of them and I first and foremost feel absolutely comfortable in them.
This past weekend I decided I would start documenting my personal style.
If I would describe my style, I would say I’m a mix/feeling of Brandy Melville, All Saints and Urban Outfitters with dashes of (and more so when I can afford it) Coco Chanel. I love chunky pieces, over-sized shirts, leggings and heels or heeled boots/booties (I’m only 5 feet for heaven’s sake). I go for comfort, yet an effortless sexiness, while jazzing it all up with accessories: bracelets, rings and a fun lip color are my favorite.
This weekend was all about comfortability and seeing how shoes can really change the look of the same outfit. You can see that my studded booties gives my outfit a “bad-ass” look, while my newly gifted Timberland boots give it a more urban, laid back look.
I know many people say this, but I cannot get enough of black clothing. I would rather wear all black than pink, yet pink is one of my favorite colors to have as an interior or accessorized accent. I also love studs and leather…it gives me lifeeee! I will leave all of the links below of where my pieces are from, or where similar ones can be purchased!
Tell me what you think in the comments below! What is your laid back, weekend look?
